Return, Refund & Exchange Policy

We make every Stray Project piece ourselves, in small batches, and a portion of every order goes to animal shelters. We want you to love what you ordered and wear it loudly for years, so if something isn’t right, we’ll work with you to fix it. Here’s exactly how it works, in plain English.

The short version

  • 30 days to return or exchange, counted from the day your order is delivered.
  • Items need to be unworn, unwashed, and have the original tags attached.
  • Exchanges are free both ways: we’ll cover return shipping and ship your new item at no charge.
  • Refunds go back to your original payment method, minus a flat $6 return shipping fee.
  • If we made a mistake (wrong item, wrong size sent, a defect, or damage in transit), we fix it fast and, of course, for free.

Returns

You have 30 days from delivery to start a return.

To be eligible, your item must be:

  • Unworn and unwashed
  • In its original condition
  • With all original tags still attached

Items that can’t be returned:

  • Anything marked Final Sale (clearance and heavily discounted items: this will always be noted on the product page before you buy)
  • Gift cards
  • Items returned after the 30-day window

How to start a return: email us at hello@strayproject.com with your order number and what you’d like to do. We’ll send you a prepaid return label and instructions.

Return shipping: For a refund, we deduct a flat $6 from your refund to cover the return label. (If you’d rather exchange or take store credit, return shipping is on us — see below.)

Once your return arrives and we’ve checked it over to ensure that the condition is as stated, and then we’ll process your refund within 2 business days. It usually takes another 5–10 business days to show up in your account, depending on your bank.

Exchanges

Picked the wrong size? It happens, and we make exchanges as painless as possible.

  • Exchanges are completely free. We cover the return label and we cover shipping on the replacement.
  • We’ll get your new size or item headed your way as quickly as we can.
  • Same condition rules apply: unworn, unwashed, tags attached, within 30 days.

How to start an exchange: email us at hello@strayproject.com with your order number, the item you have, and the size or item you’d like instead. We’ll take care of the rest.

If the item you want in exchange is sold out, we’ll offer you store credit or a refund.

Refunds

Once we receive and inspect your return, we’ll email you to confirm it’s approved.

  • Approved refunds go back to your original payment method, minus the $6 return shipping fee.
  • Refunds typically post within 5–10 business days after we process them, depending on your bank or card issuer.
  • Original shipping charges are non-refundable (unless the return is because of our error).
  • If you’d prefer store credit instead of a refund, we’ll add a little extra on top as a thank-you, just let us know.

Want a refund without sending the item back? In some cases we may tell you to simply keep the item (or pass it along to someone who could use it) and still refund or replace it. If that applies to your situation, we’ll let you know, you don’t need to ask.

If we got it wrong

If you received the wrong item, the wrong size, a defective piece, or something that got damaged on its way to you, that’s on us and we’ll make it right immediately:

  • We’ll ship you the correct item right away.
  • No return fee, no return shipping cost to you.
  • In most cases we won’t even need the original item back — we may just ask for a quick photo so we can make it right and improve our quality control.

Just email hello@strayproject.com within 30 days with your order number and a photo, and we’ll jump on it.

Gifts

Received a Stray Project item as a gift? You can still return or exchange it, just email us with the order number (or the gift-giver’s name and email). Refunds on gift returns are issued as store credit to you, so we don’t have to involve the person who gave it to you.

Lost or stolen packages

If your tracking says “delivered” but you don’t have your order, head over to our Shipping Policy, we cover exactly what to do there, and yes, we’ll help you make it right.

A note on our approach

We’re a small, mission-driven brand, not a faceless megastore. These rules exist so everyone knows where they stand, but if you’re in a situation that doesn’t fit neatly into the above, just talk to us. We’re real people, we love our customers, and we’ll always try to do the right thing.
